The 1st Friday in June means another visit to Markethill but this year was extra special as it was the queens Jubilee weekend. We want to thank Joanne Wilkinson from Magherglass Flute Band who made our two fantastic Jubilee cake. The cakes were cut by 3 fine young gentlemen from Kilcluney Volunteers to cut the cake, John William and Cyril.
A big thank you to them.
At this parade we also launched the 3rd book of the series of band members own stories called Marching On 3 it was launched by the committee of Kilcluney Volunteers Ivan, Ian, Lee, who were joined by John, William and Cyril.
As a celebration of the jubilee the project purchases 500 book, we attempted to give each band present 5 copies of the book each. Cyril Walker helped us distribute the book and also help us on the bus. Thanks to William Bradshaw and Gemma Boyd for their help with the photography.
It was great fun getting to chat to a lot of new people. The bus was looked after by Mina McCall so thank you Mina for all your help. There was a fantastic atmosphere and load of laughter.
Thanks to the member of Kilcluney Volunteers for their great welcome and all their help. It was also a very special night for the band for another reason.
One of their members Mr Ivan Walker had been honoured in the Queen Platinum Jubilee honours list for his many years dedicated service to the band but also to the wider marching band community for many years. Ivan has been working to improve the marching band scene for many years. Ivan works quietly behind the scenes not looking for honour or reward. He will deserve his honour. I met one a person who said this about Ivan, the gentleman said this “If it weren’t for Ivan Walker I would not be here today.” Congratulation Ivan well deserved.
